The December 2025 levee breach
On December 15, 2025, after a week of heavy rain, part of the Desimone Levee on the Green River gave way in Tukwila. The city reported that the area affected in Tukwila was a commercial business park in the southeast corner of the city, and that no homes in Tukwila were affected. Allentown, Foster Point and the Duwamish neighborhood weren't affected. The flow was stopped and King County made a temporary repair that evening.
In the weeks after, as the Green and Duwamish rivers dropped, the city reported flood damage to sections of the regional trail system and to Foster Golf Course.
The city describes the Southcenter District, the West Valley Highway area and the east side of Interurban Avenue South as prone to flooding. It asks residents to know their route to higher ground and to review their flood insurance — a standard home or renter's policy generally doesn't cover flooding from a river. King County runs a flood warning gauge for the Green River at Tukwila.
Who runs the water and sewer in Tukwila
The City of Tukwila runs its own water and sewer utilities, but not everywhere in the city. Parts of Tukwila are served by other providers — the city lists three sewer and five water providers besides itself, including Valley View Sewer District and Water District 125. The city publishes a sewer district map showing which serves each address.

Valley View asks its customers to call the district first, at any hour. Its staff check whether a blockage is in the district's line or in private plumbing — and it says homeowners have paid contractors to clear blockages that turned out to be in the district's own pipes.
Once you know whose line it is, cleaning up what came into the house is a sewage cleanup job either way.
Water from the street
If water from a blocked or overflowing storm drain in the street is reaching your property, report it to the city. Tukwila runs an annual small drainage program that fixes this kind of problem in the public right-of-way — often starting from a resident's report — with new catch basins, pipes and berms. Non-emergency problems go through the city's Tukwila Works reporting system.
If it's already inside, the water needs extracting and drying now, whatever the city does about the drain.
